🍒 three songs and a kinda french playlist
Yoooo,
Before we dive into this week’s three I wanted to acknowledge that I haven’t sent any songs out the last two weeks. I took some time off to recharge, travel, and visit family.
As a small thank you for your patience, I wanted to share a playlist I made during my time off. It’s inspired by Petit Paulette, a tiny French wine bar across the street from Fort Greene Park. They’ve got an incredible natural wine selection, and if you go after dark, the place is usually being held together by one lady, who is a frenzied mix of charisma and chaos. Every time I go she’s playing a refreshing mix of French house, soul, disco, and indie, and the music pairs immaculately with both the wine and the interior decor, which is defined by a neon “WINE BAR” sign that casts a mystical red glow over the entire place.

“Hysterical Us” by Magdalena Bay
Released October 2021—Spotify
A funky indie cut from Magdalena Bay’s latest Album Mercurial World, which is fucking awesome. They’ve somehow managed to consolidate the modern indie sound with the blog indie of 10 years ago.
“Shine Your Light On Me” by Natalie Bergman
Released January 2021—Spotify
The backstory of this project from Natalie Bergman is so powerful. After her losing her father and stepmother in a car accident last year, she starter writing music a few months later to process her grief and reinvent herself. The output is deeply spiritual and soulful, and when I first heard this I couldn’t believe it was made this year and not decades ago.
“Geordan Favors” by Isaiah Rashad feat. Deante’ Hitchcock
Released November 2021—Spotify
A new cut off the deluxe release of The House Is Burning, this is Zay at his best. A beat that’s subdued but catchy, with his signature flows and repetitious hook. Isaiah dives into his repeated temptations and battles with addiction, and his aspirations for making his idols proud.
